Imaging and Radiology Services
Diagnostic imaging gives physicians the ability to look inside the human body for clues about a patient’s medical condition. The imaging department of Southern California Hospital at Culver City provides patients with high-quality, comprehensive diagnostic testing. Imaging tests are performed by our highly trained, board-certified radiologists and technologists.
Southern California Hospital at Culver City has invested in advanced imaging technology to provide fast, accurate diagnosis and treatment. From MRI and ultrasound to nuclear medicine and angiography, we have a wide range of imaging techniques.
In addition, the imaging department recently added a multi-slice CT scanner that allows our doctors to view more anatomical detail in a fraction of the time needed for other tests. With this new scanner, they can more effectively detect and treat a range of conditions including heart disease, cancer, stroke, and lung disease.
Our imaging services has been accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR), which is recognized as the gold standard in medical imaging. ACR accreditation helps to ensure that we provide the highest level of image quality and safety.
We offer a full range of routine and complex radiology services for the care of our patients, including the following:
-
Computed Tomography – CT is a type of imaging that uses special X-ray equipment to make cross-sectional pictures of the bones, blood vessels, and soft tissues inside the body. CT scans allow our doctors to locate broken bones, cancers, blood clots, signs of heart disease, or internal bleeding. It is a painless, quick, and non-invasive way to look inside the body.
-
General Diagnostic Radiology – General diagnostic radiology provides our doctors with a window into conditions of the chest, spine, skull, extremities, hips, pelvis and abdomen. For instance, a chest X-ray can identify lung cancer, tuberculosis, pneumonia, and heart failure. We also offer imaging of the soft tissue abdominal organs with the use of a contrast agent and a fluoroscope.
-
Nuclear Medicine – Nuclear medicine is an imaging technique that uses radioactive tracers to reveal how the body is functioning. Patients are given a small amount of this tracer through an IV or ingestion, where it then collects in certain organs and tissues. These areas become highlighted in the subsequent images, which can help our physicians make a better diagnosis.
-
Ultrasound – Ultrasound imaging uses high-frequency sound waves to look inside the body. Our doctors use this test to view the heart, blood vessels, kidneys, liver, and other organs. Ultrasound can monitor the developing baby’s health during pregnancy, diagnose gallbladder disease, examine a breast lump, check the thyroid gland, and guide a needle for biopsy or tumor treatment. There is no risk of radiation exposure with ultrasound imaging.
-
Magnetic Resonance Imaging – MRI produces cross-sectional pictures of internal organs and structures using radio waves and powerful magnets. It does not use harmful ionizing radiation. Our doctors have an MRI scanner at their disposal to examine the brain, neck, spinal cord, heart, bones, and joints.
Our imaging department is staffed 24/7 days with state-certified radiologic technologists. The X-ray and CT facilities are available to patients around-the-clock, while nuclear medicine, ultrasound, and MRI facilities are available on call after 5 p.m. and weekends.
